It has been long since I scribbled on my blog, so thought of putting something. I didn't feel like acting like another nooby philosopher so I will be writing about instances when.. opportunity-struck-my-door..and I-opened-it...and in-came-a-gush-of-learnings! Just that some of you may wonder how the pic is in sync with the post - since I am going to pen down about my learnings, which I happen to consider as building blocks of my character and person as a whole.
October, 2007...Anant tells Me
Bhai, I have plans to do my Industrial Training not at an education center, neither at college but in a nice firm and not just for the sake of it but I really want to get the corporate experience and understand how business and technology are brought together and managed under an umbrella..
Nice, if you are doing that, so will I, it will be fun!
I was scheduled for an industrial training w.e.f January, 2008 and coincidently we both had it together though we guys were in different Trades and Colleges, so I was have it in my 8th Sem and for Anant it was to be in his 6th Sem. Starting the same week, I too started looking for a company, wrote a bundle of mails and contacted a bunch of guys from IT whom my parents knew, there were many responses dropping in, but the replies were indigestible, so I went low on enthu and got easy in looking for one as aggressively as Anant was.
November, 2007 ...Pushkar tells Me
Amit, come over and appear for the test, you never know, we'll have a nice time in the company if we get in together.. and exams are not gonna get us much in the long run of life, spare some hours out of your routine and invest them in here, after all they are also taking guys for internship..
Oh! Are they ?? Then I must try, it will be fun!
We had our internal examinations starting from Monday and this company had come on Saturday to interview us for permanent positions and internships.. having a couple of placements in-hand, I had ignored them, but considering to what Pushkar had to say and what Anant had already said a month back, I geared up, went in for the process and whoa! I get selected for internship and now I only had to wait till January, 2008.
April, 2008 ...Sarb tells Me
Amit, when you are not the boss of your present circumstances/situation, you should start doing things which can assist you become the master of the situation, which will come after your preset one. Things keep moving, nothing is stagnant. I think, you should start with the basics of CSE..
Hmmm.. I think, I should do that, it will be fun!
I was then undergoing internship and as I could see, chances of getting absorbed as an employee appeared hazy, on which Sarb bhaia suggests me to try picking up with MCSE and CCNA modules. His idea was that if you are unable to fit in the current team and if tomorrow another one has an option you can try to get in that. After all studies never go in waste...I have experienced it, I can bet on this.
December, 2008 ...Manpreet tells Me
Amit, you should learn to say No to certain things, and to certain things only. Avoid saying No to something which is new, unique, untried and untouched..
Well.. I will try to follow it and try my hands on new things, it will be fun!
Getting through with this one was the hardest of most of the learnings I have come across so far and it was the one which actually changed my perspective towards handling challenges as well. Since, I had a Yes to all the uncommon things coming to the team and I had started trying new things with my product, when an opportunity was rolled into our team, it landed up in my plate. And though it was tough digesting it, but I had a great time and now I have stories to tell for days, months and years to come.
June, 2009 ...Vibhor tells Me
Amit, I think you should try putting hands into the things you are most scared of, learn to take up responsibilities and stand by them. When you turn up to someone for an assistance, let him choose for solutions available with you, than giving you a solution. And Google what you fail to find..
Okay!.. I'll follow the things and try Googling, it will be fun!
This might sound funny or might not make much of a sense, but Vibhor had given me a magical wand within those couple of lines, he and I still remember that day. This thing was a thorn initially, but eventually turned out to a sewing needle, it would help me fix things at various occasions even though I know a bit or none of what I am taking care of.
January, 2010 ...Sumeet tells Me
Amit, there are no free lunches on this planet, you should plan things well in time and more importantly stick to what you plan.
Ji.. I'll keep this in mind, it seems difficult but it will be fun!
I exactly don't remember on what occasion did Summi Di tell me, but she was telling me about and instance from her life and I was so inspired on knowing how sticking to your own plans can enable people around you to accomplish their own plans. After all Win-Win situation is best of what humans can ever achieve.
June, 2010 ...Prateek tells Me
Amit, it is you who has to decide, deciding with something is like wining half the battle. Change can seem to be hell/heavenly, but you should also consider what other things it brings along pleasure/pain.
Okay.. I'll also switch, it will be fun!
It was sometime around the mid of the month, when I was watching people moving out of my organization and so was Prateek, when he told me about the offer he had in his hand, things looked lucrative and I wanted to understand how can this change be merged into my life as well. On which he tells me that I should decide and only I am the one who had to take the decision, that is where Summi Di's lines gave me a push. And I switched!
I feel honored that I got an opportunity to learn from you guys and I sincerely thank each of you, though I don't have much to give you guys in return but I'll always share these potions of learnings with whom-so-ever I come across!!
May we meet soon!
